- Buy the chassis history first: oil analysis or service records on the Cummins/Powerglide driveline, generator hours, and proof of annual roof and seal maintenance
- Water is the killer even on premium coaches — check slide roofs, the front/rear cap seams, and inside every overhead cabinet for staining
- Tiffin will run the VIN and tell you the build sheet and warranty/service history — call Red Bay before you commit
- Test the full electrical stack: inverter, transfer switch, slides, and leveling on both shore and generator power; big-coach electrical gremlins are expensive to chase
Frequently asked questions
Why do used Tiffins cost more than similar-size coaches?
Build quality and the service story. The cabinetry, wiring, and fiberglass work are a tier above volume brands, and Red Bay will still support a 20-year-old coach — the market prices that confidence in.
Is the Phaeton worth it over the Allegro Red?
The Phaeton adds tag-axle options on longer floorplans, higher-end finishes, and more cargo capacity. If you travel months at a time, yes; for a few trips a season the Allegro Red delivers most of the experience for meaningfully less.
Did quality change after Thor bought Tiffin?
Thor Industries acquired Tiffin in 2020 but kept the family management and Red Bay operations. Early-2020s builds show the same supply-chain-era inconsistencies as the whole industry — inspect those years on their merits.
