Tiffin RV Pricing Explained: Why Allegro, Phaeton and Allegro Bus Cost What They Do
Tiffin builds a ladder of motorhomes, and each rung buys a different chassis, a different build and a different kind of owner. Here is how the pricing structure works.

Tiffin Motorhomes of Red Bay, Alabama, has a reputation that outruns its size: a family-run builder of Class A coaches known for owner loyalty, a factory service center that owners drive across the country to visit, and a lineup that climbs from an entry diesel to a flagship that competes with the most expensive coaches on the road. Thor Industries bought the company in 2020 and kept the Red Bay operation and the name. Buyers comparing Tiffin prices against other luxury brands usually want to understand what each step up actually buys. This guide walks the ladder.
The lines, bottom to top
| Line | Type | What the step buys |
|---|---|---|
| Wayfarer | Class C on a Mercedes-Benz chassis | Tiffin interior quality in a smaller, easier-to-drive coach |
| Allegro Breeze | Compact Class A diesel | A short diesel pusher for owners who want a diesel without the length |
| Allegro (Open Road) | Class A gas | The traditional entry Class A; a gas chassis with the Tiffin interior |
| Allegro Red | Class A diesel | The step from gas to a rear-engine diesel, with the ride and towing that implies |
| Phaeton | Class A diesel | Tiffin's best-known coach; higher-end cabinetry, more amenities, a heavier chassis |
| Allegro Bus | Class A diesel | Tag axle, more power, residential-level interiors; the luxury tier |
| Zephyr | Class A diesel | The flagship; the most powerful chassis and the most elaborate interior Tiffin builds |
What you are paying for at each step
- Chassis. Gas to diesel is the largest single jump: a rear-engine diesel pusher brings air suspension, more torque for mountains and towing, and a quieter cab. The Allegro Bus and Zephyr add a tag axle for weight and stability.
- Construction. The higher lines carry heavier framing, thicker insulation packages, bigger slide rooms and more storage, which is weight as well as comfort.
- Interiors. Cabinetry, counters, flooring, residential refrigerators and washer-dryer prep step up line by line.
- Systems. Larger generators, inverters, solar prep, more sophisticated leveling and more tank capacity, each adding to the sticker.
Luxury in a motorhome is largely weight and systems. A Phaeton costs more than an Allegro Red because it carries more coach on a heavier chassis, not just because it has nicer cabinets.
Why Tiffin holds value
Owner loyalty and the Red Bay service culture keep used Tiffins in demand. Buyers who already own one trade up within the brand, and the factory service center and the owner community reassure second owners in a way that few builders match. That does not make a Tiffin immune to motorhome depreciation; it means the depreciation curve tends to be gentler than the industry norm, and well-maintained coaches sell faster.

Buying a used Tiffin
- Identify the line and the chassis from the data plate and the title, not from the badge on the side.
- Ask for the Red Bay service history. Many owners have it, and it tells you how the coach was cared for.
- Inspect the roof and slide seals and every system on each power source, as with any motorhome.
- Read tire date codes; a heavy diesel coach on aged tires is a replacement bill before the first trip.
- Compare the asking price against the live Tiffin listings and against Newmar and Entegra coaches of the same class and year.
Frequently asked questions
- Who owns Tiffin Motorhomes?
- Thor Industries acquired Tiffin in 2020. The company still builds in Red Bay, Alabama, under the Tiffin name.
- What is the difference between the Allegro Red and the Phaeton?
- The Phaeton sits a tier above: a heavier chassis, higher-end interior and more amenities. The Allegro Red is the entry to Tiffin's rear-engine diesels.
- Is the Allegro Bus better than the Phaeton?
- It is the next step up, with a tag axle, more power and residential-grade interiors. Whether that is better depends on how you travel; the Phaeton is lighter and shorter in most floorplans.
- Does Tiffin make a gas motorhome?
- Yes. The Allegro Open Road is Tiffin's gas Class A, and the Wayfarer is a Class C on a Mercedes-Benz chassis.
- Do Tiffin motorhomes hold their value?
- Better than the industry norm, because of owner loyalty and the factory service reputation. The live brand median on this page shows where Tiffin sits on today's used market.
- Where is the Tiffin service center?
- At the factory in Red Bay, Alabama. Owners travel there for service and it is a large part of the brand's reputation.
- What is the Tiffin Zephyr?
- Tiffin's flagship Class A diesel, with the most powerful chassis and the most elaborate interior the company builds.
- How does Tiffin compare to Newmar?
- They compete directly in the diesel Class A market, with similar tiers. Newmar is owned by Winnebago Industries, Tiffin by Thor Industries. Compare specific coaches of the same class and year.
