How Much Is My Travel Trailer Worth? Live Values by Age, Type and Brand

Camper values depend on age, floorplan, brand and what water has done to it. Here is how to place yours against today's market, with the live numbers to do it.

Whether you call it a camper or a travel trailer, the question is the same: what will someone actually pay for it today? Book values lag the market and dealers' offers include their margin. The most useful reference is what comparable trailers are asking right now, which is what the tables on this page are built from. The rest of this guide explains how to place your trailer within those numbers.

What travel trailers are asking right now

These medians are computed from the listings on this site today. The first table shows asking prices by RV type, so you can see where travel trailers sit against fifth wheels and motorhomes. The second shows how prices step down by age. The third shows the brands with the highest medians.

What moves the price of your trailer

  1. Age. The age table above shows the shape of the curve: the steepest drop is in the first few years, then it flattens. Our depreciation guide goes deeper.
  2. Floorplan. Bunkhouses sell to families, rear-living layouts to couples, and the floorplans with the broadest appeal sell fastest. A floorplan nobody wants is a discount regardless of condition.
  3. Brand. Buyers pay for names they ask for by name: Airstream above all, then Grand Design and a few others. Entry brands compete on price.
  4. Water. Soft floors, stained ceilings, delaminated walls and failed slide seals are the difference between a sale and a parts unit. Buyers look for water damage first.
  5. Weight class. Trailers that genuinely fit a half-ton truck have a larger buyer pool than ones that need a three-quarter-ton.
  6. Equipment and records. A new roof reseal, recent tires, solar, a backup camera and a folder of receipts all shorten the time to sale and support the price.

The gap between a dealer's trade-in offer and a private-sale price is the dealer's margin plus the time you save. Our trade-in guide explains how dealers arrive at their number so you can decide whether that time is worth it.

Value yours in ten minutes

  • Find the year, brand and model on the data plate or the title, and the length on the plate or in the manual.
  • Open the listings page and filter travel trailers by your brand and a year range either side of yours; those are your comparables.
  • Use the free appraisal tool for a live estimate from this site's data.
  • Adjust for condition and equipment, honestly. A buyer will.

If the number is below your loan

Travel trailers are often financed over long terms, and a trailer bought new a few years ago can be worth less than the balance. That changes how you sell, not whether you can. Our guide to selling an RV with a loan covers the closing process, and the trade-in guide covers how dealers handle negative equity when you are buying another unit.

Frequently asked questions

How much is my camper worth?
What comparable campers are asking today, adjusted for your condition and equipment. The live type, age and brand medians on this page come from current listings; the appraisal tool gives a live estimate for your unit.
How fast does a travel trailer lose value?
Fastest in the first few years, then more slowly. The age table above shows the current shape of the curve from live listings; our depreciation guide explains the pattern.
What is the difference between a camper and a travel trailer?
Mostly regional language. A towable with living space behind a bumper hitch is a travel trailer; many people call any towable RV a camper.
Does water damage ruin a trailer's value?
Usually it ruins the sale. Buyers check for it first, and a trailer with soft floors or delamination sells as a project at a fraction of the price, if at all.
Should I fix things before selling?
Cheap, visible fixes pay back: lights, screens, a dead battery, cleaning. Major repairs usually do not. Our is-it-worth-fixing guide walks through the decision.
Where can I get my travel trailer appraised?
Start with the free appraisal tool on this site for a live market estimate. For insurance or a lender, an RV dealer or an independent inspector can provide a written valuation.
Why is the dealer's trade-in offer so low?
It is a wholesale number: what the dealer can resell the unit for minus reconditioning, margin and risk. Our trade-in guide explains the math.
Is a bunkhouse worth more than a couples' floorplan?
Not inherently, but bunkhouses have a larger buyer pool among families, so they tend to sell faster at asking price.
