Grand Design RV Lineup Explained: Imagine, Reflection, Solitude, Momentum and Transcend
Grand Design went from startup to one of the most asked-for names in towables in about a decade. Here is how the lines fit together and what to know before buying one used.

Grand Design started in 2012 in Middlebury, Indiana, founded by industry veterans who set out to build towables with better fit and finish and a reputation for customer service. It worked. Winnebago Industries bought the company in 2016, and Grand Design is now one of the names buyers ask for by brand rather than by floorplan. The lineup has grown, and the names can confuse a first-time buyer. This guide sorts them out.
The lines at a glance
| Line | Type | Where it sits | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transcend | Travel trailer | Entry level | First-time buyers who want the Grand Design build at the lowest price |
| Imagine | Travel trailer (plus the lighter Imagine XLS and AIM lines) | Mid-range | Families and couples towing with half-ton and three-quarter-ton trucks |
| Reflection | Travel trailer and fifth wheel | Upper mid-range | Buyers stepping up in residential features; the fifth wheels are popular with part-timers |
| Solitude | Fifth wheel | Luxury | Full-timers and long-season travelers who want residential appliances and insulation |
| Momentum | Toy hauler fifth wheel and travel trailer | Luxury toy hauler | Owners hauling side-by-sides, motorcycles or golf carts who want a high-end living area |
| Influence | Fifth wheel | Flagship | Buyers at the top of the towable market |
What buyers like about Grand Design
- Pre-delivery inspection. The company built its name on a more thorough factory inspection than the industry norm, and owners report fewer first-season warranty trips.
- Customer service. Grand Design's owner forums and its direct support line are a large part of the brand's reputation.
- Residential features in the Reflection and Solitude lines: larger refrigerators, solid-surface counters and better insulation packages for shoulder-season use.
- Resale demand. Because buyers ask for the brand by name, used Grand Design units tend to move faster than comparable units from less-known builders.
What to check on a used Grand Design
- Roof and seals. Like every towable, the roof membrane and the sealant around vents and edges need regular attention. Ask for the last reseal date.
- Slide mechanisms. Reflection and Solitude units carry large slides; cycle every one and watch for binding or uneven travel.
- Weights. Solitude and Momentum fifth wheels are heavy. Confirm the pin weight and gross weight on the data plate against your truck before falling for a floorplan.
- Running gear. Check axle alignment and tire wear; these units are often towed long distances.
- Warranty transfer. Grand Design's structural warranty terms and any transfer provisions vary by model year, so verify what, if anything, carries to a second owner.

Because Grand Design holds its value well, a two- or three-year-old unit can ask close to what a comparable new unit from a lesser-known builder costs. Decide whether you are paying for the badge, the build or the resale, and whether all three matter to you.
